Thoughts?

My friend JR emailed me today: "So I got this not-a-fortune. And I hate it."

"Love is the triumph of imagination over intelligence."

I agree with her that this does not qualify as a fortune. I also don't like it all that much.

Both of us would like your input, though. What do you think?

  1. I'm with JR. don't get it - ok I 'get' it, but it's stupid and wrong. :o) Yup that's my shiny happy opinion for the day. :o)

  2. How about...love is the triumph of trust over fear? still not a fortune, though.

  3. Someone was getting bored writing (not-a-)fortunes and wanted to throw out some big words to sound profound. I, on the other hand, stick to rhyming. ;)

  4. I'm with Caroline. It's just feels inaccurate to me.

  5. MrsWhich, I, too, agree with you. My problem with my not-a-fortune is I just don't agree with the words chosen to communicate what I am guessing is the message. However, if the words chosen were intentional, then I disagree with its insinuation...and it really doesn't make sense to me. I am not the most romantic of personalities and I still don't agree with the thought. As a result, I nominate this as one of the worst "not-a-fortunes".

  6. I don't think love has anything to do with imagination or intelligence. And the tone of it strikes me as insulting. (I've been Super Sensitive Sally lately, so I'm sure it's just me!) I put that not-a-fortune pretty high up on my "total crap" list.

  7. Definitely not a fortune -- simply a subjective statement that I don't agree with. I interpret it as "love is pretending or ignoring the reality of the relationship." Not being a romantic per se, I rely heavily on what my intellect tells me. When I say I love someone I mean that I'm committed to the relationship even though there may be days I don't necessarily like the other person that day. I think you can love someone else completely without losing yourself in the process.
