I haven't done a fortune cookie round-up since March 22nd and it's almost the middle of May! Not only have I been holding onto a handful of my own cookie inserts, I also have a list of fortunes and not-a-fortunes from my loyal readers/contributors.
Let's start off with a disappointing but amusing not-a-fortune from Melissa in San Antonio:
"Life is full of little decisions- like white or brown rice."
Having just finished a meal at Pei Wei, all she could think was, "At least I had some tasty Pad Thai."
The following cookie insert was retweeted to me by my tweep (Twitter peep) Hippiechick68:
"Everyone around you is rooting for you. Don't give up!"
The diner who received this cookie insert misidentified it as a fortune, however, when he attached this caption to his photo: "I like my fortune. Thank you, cookie!" While the insert may have delivered a sentiment he appreciated, it's not a fortune.
Another tweep, Max, shared his own not-a-fortune with me:
"At the end of each day, think 'what has this day brought me, and what have I given it?'"
I have two not-a-fortunes to share:
"Promise only when you can deliver."
"Count your blessings by thinking of those whom you love."
You may find the actual fortunes in this round-up more interesting...
For example, my loyal reader and frequent contributor Blonde Birdie offered this fortune that appeared as if from nowhere:
"Doors will be opening for you in many areas of your life."
This is especially fortuitous for BB as she found it while moving into her new place. She swears she had never seen it before and has no idea where it came from. She is keeping it nonetheless!
BB's second contribution to this round-up is a fortune she received just the other night:
"You will be recognized and honored as a community leader."
My friend Delaney opened a fortune cookie to find not one but TWO cookie inserts- AND THEY WERE BOTH ACTUAL FORTUNES! Blonde Birdie should be excited about this, as she thought my "What's This? Two Fortunes?!?" post was about this very event. D's fortunes:
"An interesting musical opportunity is in your near future."
(When I inquired as to what this might entail she suggested karaoke.)
"A romantic mystery will soon add interest to your life."
One of my fortunes also mentions romance:
"Romance comes to life this year in a very unusual sort of way."
(Perhaps I will fall in love with karaoke?)
Cookie inserts also told me, "You will soon emerge victorious from the maze you've been traveling in," and "Endurance and persistence will be rewarded."
And finally, a pair of fortunes from my great friend Allison and her husband, the clotheshorse whose last cookie insert (a not-a-fortune) was featured here.
Allison received this fortune:
"A pleasant surprise is in store for you soon."
Her hubby's fortune:
"Something on four wheels will soon be a fun investment for you!"
As hubby is already in the market for a new car, Allison thinks this will be her pleasant surprise. In case you're wondering (as Audriella and I were) how they seem to get such perfectly well-timed cookie inserts, Allison says she "shakes" the cookies a little before putting them on the table, and she chooses the one that seems to be "pointing" at her, though she isn't sure how her husband selects his.
Thanks to all of my contributors in this round-up.
I also have some Magic Hat & Lone Star beer bottle caps to blog about, so keep an eye out for that post coming soon...
