Birthdays, Fortune Cookies, & the Blonde Birdie

A friend of mine from college, known on not-a-fortune as Blonde Birdie, is celebrating her 30th birthday today, March 31st, 2010. She is one of my most loyal readers and also a frequent behind-the-scenes contributor, always sharing her cookie inserts and alerting me to fun fortune cookie-related products she runs across. (Here is an example of one such product.)

She also made me aware of these fortune cookie crayons, available on Etsy.
(Another friend of mine, Robyn, shared these crayons with me as well.)

Two of BB's not-a-fortunes:
"We must always have old memories and young hopes."
"Relax and enjoy yourself."

When I blogged about fortune cookie superstitions, she commented, "I've always heard that you're not supposed to touch everyone's cookies - you're only supposed to pick up/touch the one you choose for yourself."

Less than a month after I started blogging, BB and I were in Houston for a friend and former roommate's baby shower. We were in our hotel room discussing fortune cookies when she told me about her own fortune cookie behavior: "I keep the ones I like and the ones I don't like I pretend never existed. After all, why burden myself with a bad fortune that I didn't know about 30 seconds prior?"

BB received the following fortune cookie insert just last week: "The best times of your life have not yet been lived." As she noted, "just days away from my 30th birthday, I am going to take that as a fortune- and a good one at that!"

Happy 30th Birthday, Blonde Birdie!
